After sharing and serving the taste of trust for over 100 years, the country’s third largest packaged tea company, Wagh Bakri Tea Group, launched its Wagh Bakri Perfect Premium Leaf Tea in 250 gms and 500 gms pouch format in Mumbai in the presence of the popular television star Smriti Iraani. Wagh Bakri Perfect Premium Leaf Tea is a brand new product and is a result of extensive consumer research and in-depth product testing. The company already has a strong presence in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and is now all set to enter and establish in Mumbai/ Maharashtra market. 
Wagh Bakri Perfect Premium Leaf Tea is a unique blend of taste, colour and aroma and all tea lovers of Mumbai will enjoy a very special taste of tea. The new brand is positioned as one which would lead to a ‘perfect’ relationship. At the launch, the company’s Director Parag Desai said, “In keeping with our understanding of the growing demand of top end quality tea from our consumers, we have launched ‘Wagh Bakri Perfect Premium Leaf tea’, a special blend with premium packaging and competitive pricing for the Mumbai market to cater to mainstream tea drinking segment who seeks consistent quality.” Wagh Bakri Tea Group Chairman Piyush Desai shared his views on company’s expansion strategy, “With the launch of Wagh Bakri Perfect Premium Leaf tea we would be present in majority of retail outlets across the state through our main dealers.” Smriti Iraani added, “Earlier I would request someone to bring Wagh Bakri tea for me from Gujarat but now I will get it here, just a few steps away from my home.”

Launches its special blend for the mkt

Wagh Bakri tea group, the third largest packaged tea producer in India with an annual turn over of Rs260 crore, on Wednesday announced its foray into the Mumbai market with a special blend called "Wagh Bakri Perfect'.

The new premium leaf tea, priced at Rs56 for a pack of 250gm, will compete in popular segment (Rsl75-Rs230kg) with market leader, Society, which has 36% market share(popular segment) in Mumbai region.
Mumbai, which has an annual consumption of 601akh kg, contributes to 3% of the total packaged tea sales in India and 22% of the urban Maharashtra by volume. Nivas sailan, senior vice-president, sales and marketing said that the company will have 15 distributors in Mumbai, and within two months will have 60 distributors all over Maharashtra. Currently, Wagh Bakri group has presence in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
Piyush Desai, chairman and managing director of the company, said "By the close of 2008, our products would be available in 20 major cities across India. We also have definite plans to soon enter the branded coffee market." "Within few months, we will be acquiring a tea plantation in Durban and have plans to acquire one in Assam too. We would need approximately Rs200 crore for these acquisition and expansion plans, which will be funded by internal accruals and few investors," added Desai. |

AHMEDABAD: Smelling a big boom in tea market, the Gujarat-based Wagh Bakri brand has decided to enter Maharashtra with its premium leaf teas.
The company is now targeting a 15 per cent volume share in its first year of launch in Maharashtra.
Wagh Bakri is adopting a 360 degree marketing strategy to tap into the market in Maharashtra. According to the company officials, the brand will be more aggressive in the Mumbai market.
Mumbai is the largest metro for the tea market and almost 22 per cent of Maharashtra’s volumes come from Mumbai.
With the tea category growing at 21 per cent, the company has decided to enter new markets.
Strengthening its pan-India distribution network, Wagh Bakri also has a presence in Rajasthan (20 per cent share) and Madhya Pradesh (10-15 per cent share). With an annual turnover of Rs 260 crore, the company has a production capacity of 6 lakh packets per day.
Besides, there are also plans of extending the tea brand to coffee in the future. It may launch coffee at a later stage. With a 60 per cent volume share in Gujarat, Wagh Bakri is looking at having a pan- India presence and has roped in television actress Smriti Irani to endorse its brand. |

Gujarat Tea Processors & Packers, the makers of Wagh Bakri Tea, announced its entry in Mumbai and Maharastra with a new leaf tea brand - Wagh Bakri Perfect Premium Leaf Tea.
Wagh Bakri is the third largest packet tea brand in India after the brands of Tata Tea and Hindustan Unilever.
Parag Desai, director, Gujarat Tea Processors & Packers, said at the launch: "The tea market is clocking a healthy growth of 21% this year, and a strong regional player like Wagh Bakri is gaining good market share. In Mumbai, the volume of tea consumption is over 60 lakh kg per annum and 250gm and 500gm packs are in demand. Mumbai is also the largest metro tea market. "
Chairman Piyush Desai said: "With the launch of this brand, we would be present in the majority of retail outlets across the state through our main dealers.
